A marriage license signing Augusta GA couples can book with us costs $60 when you come to us, or $100 when we meet you anywhere in Augusta or Richmond County, and it is often possible the same day. There is no ceremony. One of our officiants completes and signs your license, hands it back to you, and you walk away legally married.

Why can't we just get married at the Augusta courthouse?

This one surprises people. The Richmond County Probate Court issues marriage licenses, but the Richmond County probate judge does not perform wedding ceremonies. You can walk out of the building with a valid license in your hand and still be unmarried.

Georgia law, O.C.G.A. 19-3-30, says who may officiate: judges, magistrates, city recorders, and ministers or other persons authorized by their religious society. So Augusta couples need an officiant. Plenty of the people who search for marriage license signing Augusta GA have just found this out, sometimes while still standing at the counter.

What is a License Signing, exactly?

It is the legal part of a wedding with everything else taken away. No processional, no readings, no script. We look over the license, complete the officiant section, sign it, and hand it to you.

Georgia does not require witnesses, so it can be just the two of you. You are welcome to bring a parent, a best friend, or your kids if you want someone there. Jeans are fine. So is a white dress.

It tends to suit couples in one of these spots:

  • You want to be legally married now and plan to celebrate with family later

  • You have a practical deadline and need the marriage on record soon

  • You are marrying somewhere far away and want the legal part handled at home first

  • You simply do not want a ceremony

How much does a license signing cost in Augusta?

There are two prices, and they are the same all year.

  • $60 when you come to us

  • $100 when we meet you anywhere in Augusta or Richmond County, such as your home or your workplace

Payment plans are available on every package we offer, this one included. Our fees also support the Augusta Birth Center, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

How does a marriage license signing work, step by step?

Here is how a marriage license signing Augusta GA appointment goes from start to finish.

Step 1: Get your license from the probate court

Both of you go to the Richmond County Probate Court at 735 James Brown Blvd, Suite 1000. Licenses are issued 8:30 to 4:00, Monday to Friday, and no applications are taken after 4. The fee is $76, or $36 if you completed a qualifying premarital education course of at least six hours and bring the certificate. You can pay with cash, a money order, or a card with a fee. Tap to pay is not accepted.

Georgia has no waiting period, no residency requirement, and no blood test, and the license is usually issued the same day. Fees and hours here were checked in October 2026 and courts do change them, so call before you drive over. Our Richmond County marriage license guide covers the trip in more detail.

Step 2: Message us

Tell us you have your license, or when you expect to have it, and where you would like to meet. If you can, message us before you go to the court, so the timing lines up.

Step 3: Meet your officiant

Bring the license and each other. We complete it carefully, because a wrong date or a missing signature can cause real trouble when the court goes to record it. Then we hand it to you. You are married.

Step 4: Take the license back to the court

This part is yours. You return the completed license to the probate court, in person or by mail, within 30 days. Returning it yourselves gets your recorded license back faster. When you do, ask for certified copies, which are $10 each in Richmond County. You will need them if either of you is changing your name, and military couples need them for DEERS enrollment.

Does it matter which county issued our license?

It can. Georgia residents can apply in any Georgia county. Couples who do not live in Georgia must get the license in the county where the ceremony takes place, and a signing counts. Tell us which county issued yours when you message us, and we will make sure we meet in the right place.

A Georgia license must be used in Georgia, so we cannot sign it across the river in North Augusta.

Why use a licensed and insured officiant for something this small?

Because with a signing, the paperwork is the whole job. A friend can get ordained online in minutes, and for a full ceremony a friend can be a lovely choice. A signing is just a legal document, and it has to be right the first time.

We have married more than 1,200 couples across the CSRA, and we are a preferred partner of the Richmond County and Columbia County probate courts. We hold a business license and $2 million in liability insurance, and we are licensed to officiate in Georgia and South Carolina. We also keep a backup officiant system, so you are not left waiting if something comes up on our side.

What if we want a little more than a signature?

Some couples ask about a signing and then realize they would like a few words said. The Elopement Ceremony is $200 and includes a short ceremony with a set script, standard vows, and a ring exchange, for up to 20 guests.

The Custom Ceremony is $400. It is written from scratch for the two of you, with one planning meeting before the wedding, and we attend the rehearsal. Split over 12 months, it comes to about $33 a month. All three options are on our packages page.

Marriage License Signing Augusta GA FAQ

Can we get our license signed the same day we pick it up?

Often, yes. Georgia has no waiting period and the license is usually issued the same day, so a same day signing is often possible. Message us before you head to the probate court so we can line up the timing.

Do we need witnesses for a license signing in Georgia?

No. Georgia does not require witnesses, so it can be just the two of you and your officiant. Bring guests if you would like them there.

Is a license signing as legal as a full wedding ceremony?

Yes. A marriage license signing Augusta GA couples do with an authorized officiant is every bit as legal as a wedding with 200 guests. The license is completed the same way and recorded by the same court.

Who takes the signed license back to the probate court?

You do. We complete and sign the license and hand it to you, and you return it to the probate court in person or by mail within 30 days. Returning it yourselves gets your recorded license back faster.

Can you meet us at our home or workplace?

Yes. For $100 we will meet you anywhere in Augusta or Richmond County. If you would rather come to us, the price is $60, and payment plans are available either way.
