Wedding Officiant in Savannah, GA: A Square, the Beach, or a Venue?
A wedding officiant Savannah GA couples book through us costs between $400 and $700 in total, travel included, depending on the ceremony you choose. We are Augusta Officiant, we drive in from Augusta, and the planning happens by Zoom or FaceTime before we get there.
That is the short answer. The longer one depends on where in Savannah you plan to stand, because a square, a beach, and a private venue each ask something different of you.

If you are marrying in one of the squares
Most people who search wedding officiant Savannah GA already have a square in mind, usually one with a fountain or a very old oak. The city is friendly to small weddings. Groups under 50 people with no setup do not need a permit, and the squares are first come, first served. Larger groups, and events with setup, need a permit from the city's Special Events office.
First come, first served cuts both ways. You cannot hold the spot, and tour groups or another couple may be there when you arrive. Pick a backup square within walking distance and aim for a quieter hour. Our guide on how to elope in Savannah goes deeper on squares and permits.
Our Elopement Ceremony suits a square well. It is a short ceremony with a set script, standard vows, and a ring exchange, for up to 20 guests, with no rehearsal.
If you want sand under your feet
The nearest beach is on Tybee Island, which is its own city with its own rules. Tybee says a Beach Permit is needed for any activity beyond that of usual beachgoers. It also says the beach stays public, so no stretch of sand can be blocked off for a private event.
Does a small group saying vows count as more than usual beachgoing? That is the city's call, so ask Tybee's special events office before you plan on it. From our side, beach ceremonies are windy and loud. Keep it short, keep your guests close, and put someone sensible in charge of the rings.
If you have booked a venue
Back home, many Augusta area venues now ask officiants for a business license and proof of liability insurance, and we expect more to follow. They have reasons. Officiants sometimes do not show up, things go wrong on site, and a license filled out with the wrong date or a missing signature can keep a marriage from being recorded properly.
Ask your Savannah venue what it needs from vendors before you book anyone, including us. A wedding officiant Savannah GA venues will sign off on should be able to send that paperwork without a scramble. We hold a business license and $2 million in liability insurance. A friend can get ordained online in minutes, but a friend cannot easily produce either of those.
Venue weddings are where our Custom Ceremony fits. We write the ceremony from scratch for the two of you, hold one planning meeting before the wedding, and attend the rehearsal. Send us the rehearsal date and time when you write so we can confirm both days.
Wedding officiant Savannah GA costs, start to finish
Here is the full wedding officiant Savannah GA price list. Savannah is more than two hours from Augusta, so we add a travel fee of about $200 to $300, and we confirm the exact figure once we know where the ceremony is.
Elopement Ceremony: $200, plus travel, for a total of about $400 to $500.
Custom Ceremony: $400, plus travel, for a total of about $600 to $700.
Payment plans are available on every package and they cover travel too. Split the total into as many payments as you like. Spread over 12 months, a $600 to $700 total comes to about $50 to $58 a month. Prices are the same all year, and the details are on our wedding services page.
Our fees support the Augusta Birth Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in our hometown, which is one more thing your money does.
Who will actually show up?
One of three people. Augusta Officiant is co-owned by Katie and Nick, and Jonathan is our third officiant. We are veteran owned, family run, and a foster family, and we have married more than 1,200 couples across the Augusta area. We are licensed to officiate in Georgia and South Carolina, and our team performs ceremonies in English and Spanish.
We also run a backup officiant system, so a ceremony is never left without an officiant. That matters more when the drive is long.
What about the Chatham County marriage license?
Georgia has no waiting period, no blood test, no residency requirement, and no witness requirement, and the license is usually issued the same day. If you live outside Georgia, you must get your license in the county where the ceremony takes place, which for Savannah is Chatham County. Georgia residents can apply in any Georgia county.
The Chatham County Probate Court is in Room 509 of the Coleman Courthouse at 133 Montgomery St, and marriage licenses are by appointment. The fee is $76, which includes one certified copy, or $36 if you complete a qualifying premarital education course and bring the certificate. Cards carry a 5 percent fee and personal checks are not accepted. Fees and hours here were checked in October 2026 and courts do change them, so call before you drive over.
At the ceremony we complete and sign the license and hand it to you. You return it to the probate court yourselves, and it must be there within 30 days. Ask at your appointment how the court wants the completed license sent back, and whether you should order extra certified copies for a name change.
